Looking for a trainer alot of models have the word trainer in the name but they really don't look like they would work. I'm 55, I've flown sailplanes (full scale) about 20 years ago. I would like to try RC. I was going to get the electric NexStar from Hobbico, the one with the PA, the wing looks flat and wide it has leading edge extensions and flaps/brakes. I saw a T-34 from e-flight with the same, has anyone reading this had any experience or knowledge of this "trainer" aircraft?

Well Bob,

Welcome to Hodges Hobbies! The best thing for you to do since you're local is to make a run out to the hobbyshop and talk to Bill or Mac. Like you said, there are a lot of "Trainers" out there Mac and Bill will steer you in the right direction as far as to which plane would work good for you.Don't get all caught up in the looks of a plane yet although there have been  a few nice looking trainers coming out recently. Get something you can learn with and won't mind beating up a little because you probably will. Very few people learn to fly without the occasional "rough landing" or minor crash. Most of the new foam planes handle this fairly well and are easy to repair. There are normally a few of us "Hounds" out there on any given weekend and we will be happy to give ya a hand in setting up and "learning the ropes" of RC. We teach lots of folk to fly out here and the vast majority end up successful and addicted to it. So come on out and look around and ask questions! We all started out just like you did, except you can get started flying a lot cheaper than we did! The electric stuff has come a LONG way in the last 5-8 yrs or so!

Welcome Bob! While I have no experience actually flying either one of the planes, both seem to be adequate trainers. The best advise is what Richard gave. Just go to the shop and talk to Mac or Bill. They are really helpful. Plus don't be afraid to ask for help out there. Just look for the big ugly guy with the sleeveless shirt on and the tattoo on his upper arm.. That would be Richard!

AAAAA ha ha ha ha aha ahaha..............................

Yup that's me BOB. Sleeveless shirt, tattoo of cross with wings on right shoulder. Big...Tall.....but not as ugly as Lunchbox, AKA rcproptester, AKA Jeff(the fat one)   LOL    As you will find out, all us "hodgehounds" like to keep each other on our toes! But it is all in good fun and the hounds never get mad at each other.   The new T28 trojan is an excellent flyer. Not sure how it would do as a trainer.....
