| #31 | Well the 9th looks good to me. I'll let the better half know now so there's no "honey-do" list for that day.
As far as having thermals goes, all we need is a sunny day. Cooler days can be great flying as long as there's a lot of sunshine and few clouds. If Mac has plowed a field near the flight line it would be even better. Freshly plowed earth is a great thermal generator because of the darker color. Winter thermals are usually weaker due to the lower angle of the sun striking the earth. During the cooler months it's best to use a floater like a Gentle Lady or other flat bottomed wing to make the most of weak thermals. Keep the wing loading low. Cold windy days it's usually best to find a good slope site if you want to fly sailplanes.

| #33 | Sorry to hear that man! I passed the word to some guys in Florida about the 9th. I hope to get as many gliders there as possible. If they can drive to Perry from Pensacola they might actually make it. I think a couple of them went to SEFF this year as well. Anyone know some of the guys in the Atlanta club? I know a couple of them hang out on the forum but I can't remember their names. (Old Timers setting in already!)

| #36 | Sorry to hear about the power glider! I assume it's beyond all hope of repair? When you're ready to replace it let me know what you're looking for in a glider and I'll see what I can do to help ya in finding the right one. Ray at Skybench Aerotech has some great kits that take to electric really well and are great fliers.
Here's another thought that I've been kicking around for a bit and I'd like to get some other thoughts about it. I've dubbed it " The central Georgia three legged race". It's going to require a lot of practice by everyone going for it as well as a cross country capable ship. Something 3 meters plus in span is HIGHLY recomended!! Here's the rough details. We have three good fields within a reasonable distance from each other. The GAMA field in Ft Valley, Macs' field there at the shop and the field at Lake Blackshear. Each team will launch from one of the fields, fly to either of the other fields and then without landing head out to the last of the three. Once there, it's back to your launch field for final landing for time. To avoid any radio conflicts 2.4 is recommended but I'm sure we can work something out if we have repeat freqs. Notice that I said each TEAM!!! To do this kind of flying you need to have a driver, a spotter/relief pilot, and the main pilot. This is a good way to get friends interested in soaring or get your better half involved. It will take practice, practice and even more practice cause once you're down, you're out of the race. Should everyone fall short the winner would be the team with the most distance covered. Doing this kind of flying in this area is going to be a real challenge to say the least. So is anyone else interested or am I just crazy for even thinking all this up? Let me know if there's any interest and if so I'll post some links to some XC sites so you can get more info on this style. LOL ANYONE that pulls this race off with a DLG will go down in glider history!

| #37 | It figures,as soon as I go and start charging up all the batteries I get to work today and they're saying that we're going to have to work this weekend. BOTH days no less!!!! Well I'm going to get there and do some flying even if I have to go to work Saturday night with no sleep! I had warned my supervisor that I wasn't going to work this weekend as soon as we had set the date for this.
Sooooo.... Like it or not I will be laying to rest the rumor that I'm not a real person. I WILL be there with the Gentle Lady and Two-Tee to fly and the parts for the Paragon that I converted to electric. I get off work at 3:30 in the morning but I'll have everything loaded up in the truck already. Come home and grab a couple hours sleep and hit the road to the field about 10 or so. That should put me there about 11 so I'll see ya'll there!

| #43 | Well I actually made it this time! So contrary to popular belief I do exist! I thought Bill was going to pass out from shock when I walked into the shop.
I have to report though that the Two-Tee is no longer in the same shape it was in when I got to the field/shop. After a rough first landing and the lack of thinking on my part to check the plane out better afterwards, the wing folded on the next launch. It turns out that the joiner dowel must have cracked on the right tip and it let go about 1/4 of the way up on the very next launch. The wing is actually still usable but the fuselage is in major need of a nose job. Looks like it got caught in a shredder. Joiner rods will be replaced with carbon and the new fuselage will be built much lighter than the stock one. Other than that I had a blast. I was glad to have a chance to meet up with some of the others from here that I hadn't met already.
Richard was nice enough to show me his Gambler DLG and I think that even with my shoulder I could handle launching one. Now it's just a matter of deciding which one to get. Well that and coming up with the cash for it.
Though we didn't have the turnout of gliders that I had hoped for, watching some of the power planes and helicopters fly was fun. Now we just need to get another date setup that more of the glider pilots can make it to. Even though I hadn't gotten off work until 3:30 am Saturday morning and had to be back at work at 5 that night it was worth the lack of sleep to make it out and do some flying. With luck next time we have a glider day I won't have to go directly to work from the field and I'll be able to bring Sharon with me.

| #45 | Oh great! That's all I need. One more thing for me to do that will keep me off the flying field! Of course after my dismal flights Saturday that may be a good idea.
