I should be there! What all I bring will really depend on how I get down there.

If there is any way I can help contribute($$ or ingredients) to the LCB, and/or other dinners, let me know!!

PJ, We'll get an idea of what we are going to eat, and let everyone know, then we can all decide what to bring.

We have plenty of time, but Kenny and I can go shopping at the Commissary to get the supplies. They do not have seafood though.

This hurts so much to say but I can't be there this year.  That weekend is in the middle of a 2 week trip the wife and I are on out to Oklahoma for a week long Astronomy event.  We are going to be about 1300 miles away while the fly in is occurring.  We will miss it and everyone there.  (just think how much gas will cost me, pulling  my trailer 1500  miles each way...)

On the bright side, since Fireman Bill is running his club's fly in in Virginia and I will be in Oklahoma you guys have got to find a new winner for the big prize in the raffle.  Good luck everyone!

We'll miss you Dave!  Just point a scope eastward and see if you can see us doing stupid night flying....

I'll have to keep a lookout for that!

Now about the seafood... I checked the schedule and found that my trip out to Oklahoma starts Wednesday afternoon, September 24th.  We will be heading out of Savannah at 2:30 to 3:00 in the afternoon.  That would put us near Dublin around 5:00 or Macon around 6:00.  If need be I can pick up some seafood in Savannah around noon on Wednesday and deliver it to someone who could meet me near I-16 that afternoon.  That wouldn't require the stuff to be in a cooler any longer than was required at SEFF depending on which night you do the LCB.  The weather is a bit warmer now so this time more ice would be required.

Dave, I know this is probably a sin to ask, but can the shrimp be kept in a deep freeze? I have a deep freeze in my garage that we could store them in until Friday when I head down to Hodges.

I have talked to lots of folks about that.  I usually buy and freeze some shrimp when the harvests are good and the price goes down.  A good friend who manages a local restraunt says that they use all frozen shrimp and they have a very good reputation for seafood here in town.  One year the sounds had not been opened for local shrimping in time for SEFF and we had frozen shrimp for the LCB that year.  Only one or two know what year that was and I think that anyone who ate that LCB thought the shrimp were great.

The idea of fresh shrimp certainly sounds better but in reality the difference between fresh and properly frozen shrimp is much harder to detect.  I am not sure that I have ever been able to taste any difference.  It is also possible to get a bunch of fresh shrimp that weren't handled well when they were caught and not be happy with them.  The better seafood places here in Savannah sell good shrimp whether they are fresh local ones or frozen ones.  I think it would be fine to put fresh shrimp in the freezer for a day or so if that is what needs to be done.  The seafood place I usually use (Mathew's) recommends buying already frozen shrimp if you are going to keep them much more than a couple of days.
