Hey folks, Im about as new as it gets to the RC world. I just received a new Sky Fly for my B-day (31 = old) and I am excited about getting this hobby on its way. I welcome the tips and tricks as much as I can get them.

Q. Is Hodges Hobbies a flying club? Is their any fees for flying there?

Thanks everyone, c-ya soon!

Welcome!
Hodges is an open flying site. You should have AMA to fly there, but in the case of new people, it sometimes gets overlooked in order to get them started and help out.
Check out The AMA website and see what you think.  http://www.modelaircraft.org/
While I don't live close enough to be able to come out often, look for Richard when you go out there. ( I'm sure he will chime in here soon also )

The biggest bit of advice I can give you is.... have lots of room and wait till the wind dies down.  What you think is a large space gets awful small when you are learning how to fly, and the wind is always blowing harder than you think....

Yup. Jeff is right on all accounts.

Where do you live at. There are numerous "locals" that live all around Hodges. I live in Byron, there are a few that live in Warner Robins, Richard lives in Americus, heck we are all over. If you want to get together with us, just let us know, we look for any excuse to go out and fly.

Welcome to our addiction!!!!! Come on out we'll get ya goin'! I'm Richard aka stickkiller aka hodgehound and there is someone there on pretty much any Sat. that will help you. We love flying OPP! (other peoples Planes) LOL  Just check the calendar to make sure there is no event going on. The field is closed during races, stick contests etc. Bryan, Jeff, Kenny, Joey, Buddy, Mel and Chris Scoggins and even more are regulars at Hodges and any of them are more than capable of showing you the ropes of RC! So come on out and get you some of our drug and get addicted like us!

Oh yeah! That Sky Fly is a great flyer!

Great!! Thanks everyone! I cant wait till I actually do get to fly this puppy.

Does it ever seem to anyone else that when you don’t have a plane its never windy? Get a plane and its a no fly day...

I am from Perry, so I believe its about 30 min to Hodges?

Well see yall soon!

Hey Ryan,

Once you're addicted like the rest of us you'll have to go to the Perry Show next spring!  Lots of good deals there.  I guess you're going to be even closer to it than I am. I'm in S.E. Warner Robins.

If you want to give sailplanes/gliders a try, we're having an informal get together at the field on the 9th.  You're more than welcome to come on out.  I'm sure that we could get you some stick time in.  Gliders are a good way to get practice in on the basics before you add power.  Slower pace and all.

Ryan, If you want to go fly, let me know. I usually hit up the Fort Valley field when I can not make it to Hodges.

It is a nice wide open field with plenty of room for a Sky Fly to fly in. Not as nice as Hodges, but much closer. for me anyway.

Kenny and I are planning on going over there sometime this week.

Usually the mornings are great flying times. A lot less wind. During the summer time, the pop up storms kill almost every afternoon.
